ELI urges swift action to phase out harmful chemicals in everyday products

With growing awareness of the potential risks associated with specific chemicals found in everyday products, evidence-based regulation is imperative to safeguarding the health, safety, and wellbeing of the environment, individuals, and communities.

In light of this, ELI recently submitted their recommendations to the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) regarding the proposed revisions to the Cosmetic Products Group Standard.

ELI's submission aligns with the concerns of individuals and communities worldwide who have become increasingly alarmed by evidence surrounding the presence and persistence of perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). These substances, known as “forever chemicals”, have garnered attention due to their exceptional longevity in the environment and the potential for bioaccumulation within living organisms. Research has indicated a wide range of adverse effects on aquatic and terrestrial organisms, including reproductive and developmental issues, as well as impacts on various organ systems. ELI, recognising the gravity of these risks, firmly advocates for swift action to phase out PFAS.
