How your gift will be used

Unless otherwise specified by you, your legacy will go where the need is greatest—funding expert legal advocacy, research, and litigation that protects our environment and drives positive environmental change.

Your support will assist us to hold polluters, corporate interests, and regulators to account.

You decide the type of gift

There are several ways to remember the Environmental Law Initiative in your Will:

  • A specific amount – a fixed monetary contribution

  • A residuary gift – the remainder of your estate after loved ones are provided for

  • A percentage of your estate – a flexible option that adjusts with your estate’s value

  • A specific item – such as shares, property, or other valuable assets

  • An endowment fund - a named endowment fund held by a community foundation

What next?

To include ELI in your will, you need to clearly identify us as the recipient, specify the type of gift (as above), and ensure the wording in your will is legally sound. 

This can be done by either creating a new will or by adding a codicil (an amendment) to your existing will. It's highly recommended to consult with a lawyer or trustee company to ensure your wishes are accurately reflected and legally binding.
