We’re hiring - Communications Manager

Job description:

The Environmental Law Initiative (ELI) is a charitable trust that aims to make a positive difference to the environment through the application and improvement of environmental laws. ELI uses both litigation and advocacy to meet these aims. ELI works across a range of environmental domains, including oceans, freshwater, biodiversity and conservation, climate change, and environmental pollution.

ELI is moving into the next phase of its organisational growth and the newly created role of Communications Manager will play an important role in the delivery of ELI’s strategic purpose. The role is currently full-time, but part-time appointments will also be considered. The role will have responsibility for the organisation's communications and engagement function and will be based at ELI’s offices in Wellington.

The successful applicant will bring fresh and creative ideas to engage ELI with its audiences, and will lead ELI into the next phase of its organisational communications.

The successful applicant will demonstrate:

  • Over 5 years of communications and engagement experience, which could be drawn from a range of backgrounds, including journalism, strategy, content creation, politics or marketing

  • Knowledge of a range of communications channels, including print, website, and social media

  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills

  • Confidence in crafting positive and engaging messaging

  • Good networks across a range of media

  • A proactive mindset with a strong focus on excellence

  • Some knowledge of the law and environmental issues
